25 - What's Next?
EXISTING MARKET
Talking to a few potential customers, it seems that customization is key moving forward for this product. While the colors available seemed nice, a lot of the appeal of this product comes from it's use as a decorative object. Because of this, it might be nice to have patterns or other designs available in the future for the product. Another idea that was brought up by one of the interviewees was to create a planter of a material that could be drawn on, whether by chalk or erasable marker.
The second topic for expansion related to the access of information. One of the potential clients was concerned with their lack of knowledge on plants and said that this could impact their decision to purchase the product. If it came with a small pamphlet with rudimentary information, they would feel more inclined to go through with the purchase. I think it could be an easy addition to the project.
NEW MARKET
I think that currently my target market has been college students; they are the most accessible and many of them already own plants in some capacity. Therefore, I decided to ask established families what they thought of the product and how they could integrate it. Feedback I received dealt with the design of the product itself. The recyclable material I was intending to use had the appearance of plastic and many of these families would have preferred a nicer design, with more durable elements. A few suggested reclaimed wood or metal as alternatives and did not oppose the higher price range. They also supported the idea of using them as a family project with their children.
I think the most surprising aspect is that I learned that older consumers are willing to spend more money on my project if it has a nicer appearance. I believed that the initial prices I had estimated would already be a bit high for college students but this venture could be more lucrative amidst families.

ReplyDeleteI think the design and look of your product is important to the customers, because your product is something that will be holding their plants in their house. Many people like items that can have many purposes, so if you can make the design look good, it can also be used as decorations. This will make the customers want to buy it more. However, it is true that college students may see it as too much money, because most college students are living on a budget.
